What car has the best aftermarket tuning community/parts availability?

I’m thinking it’s probably a toss up between the Honda Civic and the WRX/STI because of the lower buy-in price. Am I missing anything?

Mustang Fox.

I think that was more true 10 years ago. After hearing how scarce Cobra parts have gotten, I’m not so sure. I would have thought people would have stepped up to make OEM direct fit Cobra parts (like Farah’s steering rack).

Anything with an American v8

67-69 Camaro. The STI is an amateur next to a first gen Camaro when it comes to performance parts.

Well, if we want to be generic then I’d say Mustangs in total. Their aftermarket is monstrous. Both big business and boutique.

The 302 engine alone is all over the place. Same with the T5.

F-150 a lot of the performance bits can be carried over from models sharing the engine. There is offroad stuff, street stuff and then if you count work customization - ladder racks, tool boxes (both you could are increase the capabilities of the truck)

Jeep. Yes off road stuff is more expensive but parts are so easy to find.

You also get the SBC/BBC aftermarket rolled up into that.

I wasn’t into Mustangs ten years ago, so I can’t comment on that. Nor am I familiar with other aftermarkets to accurately judge who’s the best.

But I still think Fox/Sn95 (’79-’04) Mustangs is a good nominee.

Jeep Wrangler

Ford Mustang

Subaru WRX

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo

Honda Civic

Any of those have a plethora of stuff to choose from. The Civic’s popularity as a “tuner” has waned in recent years but there are still quite a few.

Exactly, plus all of the people who build the parts to put an LS in them and then the whole LS aftermarket.

Mustang. Miata. Both have many dedicated companies that only make parts for them.

Also DSM’s still have a bunch of stuff out there

Fox bodies and Hondas. With the Hondas, you don’t even need the after market some times. Want a 4wd civic? Take the drive train out of a CRV. Bam. One of my coworkers is putting together a Chump Car Civic and he’s bought four of them for parts. Don’t thinks he’s spent 1200 bucks on the cars them selves.

As for the Fox body, (Mustang, Fairmont, Thunderbird, etc) the aftermarket has whatever you want to make a Fox into what ever you want. Or, like my father, put the guts of a Fox into whatever you want.

That is true currently. I would have no clue how crazy it is if it weren't for an ex coworker that was fox crazy.

The problem with the Civic is the ones every one wanted to mod. 88-00 are all 16/23 year old. Part of the reason they were so poultry was you could swap parts easily from any Honda of th era. The Civic remained basically the same for 12 years with the same basic classic design, plus The Intgra also had interchangeable parts you could put in your cheaper Civic. But now the Civic just isn't the same.

I honestly think its the Civic. It’s just so popular with kids because the older gens are simple and alot of people I know learned what they know on those generations (1995-2000 6th Gens). They have tons of parts, they got a Type R, and come in hatch, coupe, sedan and si. Sure alot are riced out but they are just incredibly easy to find parts for.

This.

Yes, there’s a lot of tuner support for Honda engines but rear ends/transmissions/diffs/etc it just doesn’t even compare.

Not Aussie cars with American V8s! The parts were scarce to begin with.
